BMW Z3M Roadster SOLD

— Sold to Alex —

Our Z3M Roadster is finished in striking Estoril Blue metallic with Imola Red and Black Nappa Leather Interior, one of just seven Z3M Roadster finished in this combination worldwide, five of these were specced in right hand drive for the UK, the other two were LHD with one destined for Japan and the other for Austria. It is believed that out of the 900 original RHD Z3M Roadster, just 500 are still on the road in the UK. The original 17-inch M Roadstar Lightweight Alloy Wheels are still present and unmarked, fitted with matching Continental Contisport high performance tyres. The Z3M Roadster has covered 63,200 miles and has a full BMW and BMW Specialist service history, the most recent service was in April 2019 at 62,769 miles. The all-important Running-in Check was carried out on schedule at 1,236 miles.

The car comes complete with the original service booklet, invoices of work carried out, original owners manual pack, tools, two original keys and remote alarm/locking key fobs. HPI Clear, June 2021 MOT and 12 months warranty included. “The M3’s magnificent 321bhp, 3.2-litre, straight-six slotted in under the bonnet easily. The result? 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. More than enough to get the best from the Z3’s fine chassis. And boy, could you. The chassis easily coped with the immense power and, sat almost on top of the rear axle, meant you could feel exactly what was going on underneath. The short wheelbase meant it could get snappy if you took liberties, but otherwise the handling was nicely neutral. So you could understeer safely round a corner, or paint massive, rubbery arcs on the tarmac. Many commentators went so far as to call it the best handling car in the world.”
CarThrottle, 2013

The M-Division worked their magic on the Z3 to create the Z3M, with both ample power and handling excellence, 50:50 weight distribution ensured great balance though corners at speed. It still utilised the same chassis as the brilliant E36 3-series, so it was highly capable on the road. The Z3’s transformation into an M-car was relatively simple, with most of the hardware being lifted from the E36 M3 EVO. The rear suspension was derived from the E30 M3 and the front suspension, limited-slip differential and brake system being taken from the E36 M3 EVO. Compared to the standard Z3, M models featured a limited slip differential, a wider rear track, and larger brakes (from the E36 M3). Z3M models were available in M-specific colours, they feature more aerodynamic wing-mirrors as well as redesigned front and rear bumpers and bespoke “Roadstar” Style 40 wheels, revised side gill and quad exhausts. The Z3 M roadster was the first BMW to feature this quad exhaust design, which has since become a BMW M division signature. The interior can also be differentiated by the voltmeter, clock and oil temperature gauges in the centre console, leather-wrapped centre console and door pulls, as well as unique M-styled seats and interior colour options.

The Z3M Roadster was released in 1997, powered by the S50 Straight Six M Engine, producing 316bhp. The ZF 5-speed gearbox mated to a cooled LSD with 25% lock was the perfect match to the M3 EVO sourced power plant. The S50’s superior engine included 6 individual throttle bodies controlled by a throttle cable, factory polished and ported head with larger inlet valves and stronger valve springs, uprated camshafts and re-tuned continuously variable double vanos valve timing, lightweight pistons and uprated conrods, lightweight pistons, an additional oil pump and a high flow exhaust system. Engine management was via a sophisticated Siemens MS S50 system. In 2001 BMW updated the engine in the Z3M to the S54 engine, found in the next generation E46 M3, for the final year or so of production. Peak power was only marginally increased by 5bhp and torque remained unchanged, but was higher up in the rev range, 4,900rpm instead of 3,250rpm.
