Background
Production of the 991.2-series 911 Targa 4 GTS began in 2018. In the evolution of Porsche sports cars, the introduction of the original 911 in 1963 was a watershed event. It established a design vocabulary that remains distinctly our own. Just two years after the debut of the all-new 991 Coupe came another design that stunned the automotive world: the Porsche 911 Targa. It was a concept as unique as the sports car it came from. No ordinary cabriolet, it was instead an entirely new idea of how to achieve the pleasures of open- air driving. With its prominent Targa bar roof structure, it created a sensation. The structural integrity ensured that Porsche levels of handling precision could be achieved, while the folding roof allowed the driver and passengers to feel Porsche performance as never before.

Just like the 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS, it featured the 3.0 litre engine twin-turbo engine with Direct Fuel Injection DFI, revised suspension system, lighter restyled body, larger air intakes, sculpted LED rear and quad front daylight running lights, all new Porsche Communication Management (PCM 4.0) System with touchscreen, UK/Europe hard drive navigation/music jukebox, MirrorLink Apple CarPlay Android Auto and Bluetooth audio streaming as well as phone connectivity (as options – fitted to this car). The 991.2-series Targa 4 GTS is 4.4cm wider than the 991.2 Carrera S and also features the iconic red rear light bar, which lights up, unlike previous generation 911s. Despite a 100mm longer wheelbase, overall length is only increased by around 40mm and weight is actually reduced by 45kg due to intelligent use of composite alloys that not only add up to 25% rigidity, but reduce weight too. The roofline is actually lower than the previous 997 generation 2, however cabin space has also significantly increased in all dimensions, making this an even more useable, yet stylish, updated 911 with clear classic Porsche lineage.

“You get an incredible chassis and all the blistering performance you’d expect. On the road it feels mighty. The flat-six is superb in-gear while still responding well when you head up to the rev limiter, and is much more audible here with the Targa roof down. It’s hard not to enjoy the pops and bangs from the sports exhaust – and the howl at the top end is far from unpleasant. The seven-speed PDK dual-cluch gearbox is one of the best auto gearboxes available, shifting smoothly in auto mode but delivering incredibly quick changes when you want them. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus sends power where it’s needed, too, giving you huge drive out of the bend. It has such a clever all-wheel-drive system that at times it feels like a rear-wheel drive car, just with a bit more security at the front end. In PASM comfort mode, the 911 Targa GTS is soft enough to be used every day, but tighten up the dampers into their hardest setting and you can feel every bump and ridge in the road. The Targa is at its best on an open, sweeping road with the sun beating down. The cabin is spacious up front, and buffeting with the roof down is kept to a minimum. It’s beautifully built, too.”

Exterior
Our hand selected Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS looks stunning in its metallic coat of GT Silver, a striking colour for the 991.2, especially with the contrasting Satin Black rollover bar, Black Dual centre Tailpipes, Sport Design Front Bumper with Satin Black Lower Spoiler, Sport Design Mirrors, Satin Black 20-inch Turbo Sport alloy wheels and centre locks. The paintwork condition is excellent, with no blemishes on any panel, having been fitted with Paint Protection Film PPF from new on the whole front end including Bonnet, Front Bumper, Front Wings and Wing Mirrors. The rest of the car was protected from new with Gtechniq Ceramic Coating. The 911 Targa 4 GTS has been waxed with Auto Finesse Soul Carnauba Wax by us, which will help protect the paintwork and repel surface contaminants. All the trim has a perfect finish, as do the front PDLS and rear LED lights, which are free from any damage or moisture buildup. The windows drop as they should when you open the door. The front and rear active spoilers, engine and boot struts all operate as they should. The Targa Roof System operates as it should and has been fully lubricated with the drain pipes all cleaned and the rubbers all treated to keep them supple and watertight.

Interior
This 911 Targa 4 GTS comes with black leather and Alcantara with Red Stitching Hardback Sports Seats Plus that have 3-stage seat heating, Red GTS Embroidered Headrest Insignia and 4-way electric control. The extended black leather and Alcantara with Red Stitching dashboard, centre console, armrest, doors and seats are in excellent condition and provide a perfect contrast to the GT Silver metallic bodywork. There are no marks or signs of wear to any of the trim parts, panels or switchgear, with the leather retaining a wholly fresh appearance throughout. The sleek aesthetic is topped-off with features like the Carmine Red Instrument Dials, Carbon Fibre Trim, Carmine Red Seat Belts, heated Leather GT Sport Steering Wheel with Metal PDK paddles and multi-function controls for the PCM 4.0 system.

Engine and Transmission
The 991.2-series Targa 4 GTS comes fitted with the rear mounted 3.0 litre flat-six twin turbo-charged engine complete with Factory Powerkit that produces 450bhp, 30bhp more than the standard ’S’ engine, and 405 lb-ft, which propels the all wheel drive sportscar to 60mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a 190mph top speed. The engine starts cleanly when cold or hot, there is no smoke whatsoever either at startup or when driving. There are no unusual sounds or rattles when the engine is running. The optional 7-speed double-clutch PDK transmission system provides instant changes, unleashing the power of the engine with minimal fuss.

The 911 Targa 4 GTS is fitted with Sport Chrono Package Plus, which adds a SPORT and SPORT PLUS button as well as a dashboard mounted stopwatch to add to the sporting image of the 911 Targa 4 GTS. This integrated system provides simultaneous enhancement to the engine, Steering, PDK transmission, Porsche Active Suspension Management PASM and Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts PADM. When you activate SPORT PLUS, PASM becomes more responsive and moves to a firmer suspension setting, there is more direct steering while cornering. Agility is perceptibly enhanced when braking for corners with PSM, allowing sportier braking and exit acceleration. Sport Chrono Package Plus has two additional functions. The first is LAUNCH CONTROL, which helps achieve optimal acceleration from a standing start. The second function is the motorsport-derived gearshift strategy. Using this, PDK optimises shift points to the shortest possible shift times for maximum acceleration.

This 911 Targa 4 GTS has the PADM dynamic engine/transmission mounts, which electronically control the oscillations and vibrations of the entire drivetrain, especially the engine. By adapting stiffness and damping characteristics to changes in driving style and road surface conditions, the dynamic gearbox mounts combine the benefits that otherwise distinguish hard and soft gearbox mounting arrangements. For the driver, the results are tangible. Handling is perceptibly more stable under load-change conditions and in fast corners. Whenever a less assertive driving style is adopted, the dynamic gearbox mounts automatically soften to enhance comfort. You experience the best of both worlds—uncompromisingly sporty performance in corners, yet with a high degree of comfort. The SPORT or SPORT PLUS button enables you to switch the dynamic gearbox mounts from Normal to Sport or Performance mode. In conjunction with the optional PCM, the TFT screen in the right-hand circular instrument enables you to view the lateral and longitudinal G-forces as they act on the vehicle.

One other feature fitted to this Targa 4 GTS is Porsche Torque Vectoring PTV Plus, a system that actively enhances vehicle dynamics and stability. Operating in conjunction with the electronic rear locking differential, it works by braking the rear wheels as the situation demands, to improve steering response and steering precision by specific braking of the right or left rear wheel. Consequently, a greater amount of power is distributed to the outside rear wheel, inducing an additional rotational pulse (yaw movement) around the vehicle’s vertical axis. This results in a direct and sporty steering action as the car enters the corner. At high speeds and when accelerating out of corners, the rear differential lock ensures greater driving stability, outstanding traction, as well as greater agility, precise steering, and stable load transfer characteristics. In summary, the 991.2-series Targa 4 GTS offers unrivalled driving pleasure at every twist and turn.

Wheels, Tyres and Brakes
Our 911 Targa 4 GTS comes fitted with the Satin Black 20-inch Turbo Sport III lightweight alloy wheels, which have been professionally refurbished off the car with the tyres removed, so they are as new inside and out. They also have centre locking nuts, derived from Porsche Motorsport. They are fitted with the optional black tyre pressure monitoring valves and optional colour Porsche Crests. The centre lock nuts themselves are also in excellent condition. The Guards Red brake callipers, steel brake discs and pads are in excellent condition. The tyres are Porsche N1 rated Pirelli P Zero high performance tyres, with lots of tread left all round.
