Guards Red 987 Gen 2 Cayman S 6-Speed Manual with full black leather interior. Choice options include Hardback Leather Sports Seats, PSE Switchable Sports Exhaust, PASM Switchable Suspension, Limited Slip Differential, Short Shift Kit, Rear Parking Sensors, daylight running LEDs and 19-inch Carrera Sport lightweight alloy wheels that are diamond cut with gloss black spokes.
A very rare factory option that is fitted to this Cayman S is the mechanically locking rear differential, it further enhances the traction of the driven rear wheels on uneven roads and when accelerating out of tight bends, and the damping of load-change reactions during fast cornering is reduced. Road holding at the limits of performance is even more impressive. The car holds its course better and so PSM intervenes less often. In other words, sheer driving pleasure.
The Cayman S comes fitted with the mid mounted 3.4 litre DFI flat six engine that produces 321bhp. With this being a 987.2 Cayman S, it is cleaner and more efficient, translating to cheaper annual road tax, just £340 instead of £585, a significant saving to annual running costs. The 987 generation 2 cars do not suffer all of the problems of later 718 cars, such as turbo/oil supply failures, or earlier 987 generation 1 cars, including IMS bearing failures, RMS leaks and Borescoring, all of these issues were eradicated by Porsche when they designed the all-new direct fuel injection (DFI) naturally aspirated 987.2 Boxster and Cayman engines.
Full comprehensive Official Porsche Centre OPC and Porsche Specialist service history with stamped book and all invoices from new in the history file we have compiled. The Cayman S was last major serviced at La Rose Porsche Specialist in October 2021 at 37,623 miles with new spark plugs, drive belt, brake fluid change, both aircon condensers, front crossover coolant pipes, rear brake pads/discs, rear lower arms, rear track rods, rear drop links and four wheel alignment at a cost in excess of £3,800. Subsequently, we have had the LSD stripped and rebuilt with all-new internals and replaced the ignition coil packs in March 2022. The mileage is 39,040 miles and it has four previous owners from new. The next service is due in 17,300 miles or October 2023, whichever comes sooner. The Cayman S has had a full diagnostics, overrev and engine hours check carried out by us with excellent results, details are in the history file and available to view as a PDF on our website.

“The Cayman has come a long way, establishing itself firmly as a sports car in its own right and no longer seen as the more economical version of the 911. The Cayman S looks, drives and feels just perfect. All other things being equal it is probably all the sports car you’ll ever need. The Cayman S is a pure-bred sports car with mid-mounted engine, delivering uniform weight distribution between the front and rear axles and particularly well-balanced handling characteristics for high cornering speeds with excellent control.”
MotorStars Magazine, 2016
Background
The facelift version of the Porsche Cayman was introduced in February 2009. The Cayman S gained direct injection and a 25bhp increase to 320bhp, compared to the first generation version. The new engine does away with the Intermediate Shaft, which proved to be a weak link in pre-2009 engines, and has new cylinder coatings which are not prone to prematurely wearing or bore scoring. The front bumper was redesigned along with new front and rear lights, with the addition of daylight running lights in the front bumper.
Exterior
Our hand selected Cayman S looks stunning in its glossy coat of Guards Red, an iconic Porsche colour. The striking 19-inch Carrera Sport lightweight alloy wheels are diamond cut, with the spokes specified in Gloss Black with coloured Porsche crests from the factory, they are the perfect contrast to the Guards Red paintwork. All the trim has a perfect finish, as do the front and rear lights. The windows drop as they should when you open the door. The engine and boot struts also operate as they should.
Interior
The Cayman S comes with the hard back sports seats that have 2-way electric backs and height adjustment. All of the interior leathers are in excellent condition and provide a perfect contrast to the Guards Red bodywork. There are no marks or signs of wear to any of the trim parts, panels or switchgear, with the leather retaining a wholly fresh appearance throughout.
Engine and Transmission
Our Cayman S is equipped with the 3.4 litre DFI flat six engine. The Cayman S engine produces 320bhp and 273ft-lb of torque. The axle load distribution of approximately 45:55 ensures high directional stability and superb road behaviour. The engine starts cleanly when cold or hot, there is no smoke whatsoever either at startup or when driving. There are no unusual sounds or rattles when the engine is running.
With its compact design and low weight, the 6-speed manual gearbox is a simple, direct way to tap into the power of the Cayman S. The manual transmission system has been further improved with the factory fitted short shift kit, which reduces the gearshift travel and increases the precision of changes, giving you the highest possible level of accessibility with the minimum of fuss.
A very rare factory option that is fitted to this 987 Gen 2 Cayman S is the mechanically locking rear differential, it further enhances the traction of the driven rear wheels on uneven roads and when accelerating out of tight bends, and the damping of load-change reactions during fast cornering is reduced. Road holding at the limits of performance is even more impressive. The car holds its course better and so PSM intervenes less often. In other words, sheer driving pleasure.
Our Cayman S is equipped with the highly desired Porsche Switchable Exhaust (PSE) system, which unleashes a more sporty sound both on acceleration and lift off.
This 987.2 Cayman S also has PASM switchable sports suspension system, which includes the dashboard switch that stiffens the suspension in an instant, increasing connection to the road. PASM equipped cars also sit 10mm lower than non PASM cars.
Wheels, Tyres and Brakes
Our Cayman comes fitted with the 19-inch Carrera Sport lightweight alloy wheels which are diamond cut and finished with gloss black spokes, are unmarked, free of kerb damage and corrosion. The brakes are phenomenal, cross drilled and vented discs front and rear with plenty of life left in them. The tyres are matching Michelin Pilot Sport 4S high performance tyres with lots of tread remaining.
