The iconic 911 Coupe body is paired with striking 19-inch Turbo II lightweight alloy wheels. The Black Edition comes with the sought after 6-speed manual gearbox. The 997 generation 2 cars do not suffer all of the problems of early 997 generation 1 cars, including IMS bearing failures, RMS leaks and Borescoring, all of these issues were eradicated by Porsche when they designed the all-new direct fuel injection (DFI) 911 engines for the generation 2 997s.

This 997.2 Black Edition has full Porsche Main Dealer (OPC) and Porsche Specialist Service History, with fully stamped original service book and invoices. The most recent major service carried out in October 2021 at 38,512 miles, which included new spark plugs, drive belt change, air filters, aircon service, offside window regulator, brake fluid change and oil/filter change. The next service is due in 20,000 miles or by October 2023, whichever comes sooner. Total mileage is 38,550 miles and there is just one previous owner from new. The 911 Black Edition has had a full diagnostics, overrev and engine hours check carried out by us with excellent results, details are in the history file and available to view as a PDF on our website.

“Behind the second-generation 997’s redesign lies one of the most significant sports cars of the moment. The 911 has always made sense for its practicality and dynamism, but now it’s even more polished, even quicker and significantly greener. It’s even better to drive. Porsche has played down the changes to the suspension, but they have completely eliminated the old car’s tendency to bob its nose up and down in response to changes in road surface and elevation. So you can lean on the front end with far more confidence now, while the 911’s trademark steering remains intact, offering stacks of feedback and instant turn-in. It’s an odd experience for anyone who’s driven 911s before, but there’s no doubt that the new car is more capable even on the standard non-adjustable dampers our base Carrera came with. It’s pliant and handles brilliantly – a great mix.”

Background

The 911 Black Edition is a limited production special edition, with a total build of just 1,911 examples worldwide. Just 20 were registered in the UK, with the 6-speed manual gearbox. This 911 Black Edition is numbered 495 out of 1,911. Special features of this 911 included a unique numbered plaque on the glovebox, black painted centre console, stainless steel door entry guards with Black Edition logo and the fitment of the 19-inch Turbo II lightweight alloy wheels. Production of the second generation 997 series 911 Carrera began in mid 2008, it featured an all new engine with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) which is mounted 10mm lower in the car, revised suspension system, new front bumper with larger air intakes, LED rear and front daylight running lights, all new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) System with touchscreen, hard drive navigation and Bluetooth. The generation 2 cars also do not suffer all of the problems of early 997 gen 1 cars, including IMS bearing failures, RMS leaks and Borescoring, all of these issues were eradicated by Porsche when they designed the all-new direct fuel injection (DFI) 911 engines for the generation 2 997s.

Exterior

Our hand selected Porsche 911 Black Edition looks stunning in its gloss coat of Schwarz Black. The 19-inch Turbo II lightweight alloy wheels are Diamond Cut Finished and are the perfect contrast to the Black bodywork. The paintwork condition is excellent, with no blemishes on any panel. The 911 Black Edition has been polished and treated with Autoglym High Definition Wax by us, which will help protect the paintwork and repel surface contaminants. All the trim has a perfect finish, as do the front and rear lights, which are free from any damage or moisture buildup. The windows drop as they should when you open the door. The engine and boot struts also operate as they should.

Interior

The black leather seats come with optional 2-stage heating and like the rest of the interior leathers, are in excellent condition and provide a perfect pairing to the Gloss Black bodywork. There are no marks or signs of wear to any of the trim, panels or switchgear, with the leather retaining a wholly fresh appearance throughout. The special features of the Black Edition are all present, and include a unique numbered plaque 495/1,911 on the glovebox, black painted centre console and stainless steel door entry guards with Black Edition logo.

Engine and Transmission

Our 911 Black Edition is equipped with the 3.6 litre flat six DFI engine, which addressed all previous weaknesses of the 996 and 997 first generation engines. The 911 Black Edition engine produces 340bhp and 288ft-lb of torque. The axle load distribution of approximately 40:60 ensures high directional stability and superb road behaviour. The engine starts cleanly when cold or hot, there is no smoke whatsoever either at startup or when driving. There are no unusual sounds or rattles when the engine is running.

With its compact design and low weight, the 6 speed manual gearbox is a simple, direct way to tap into the power of the 911 Black Edition.

Wheels, Tyres and Brakes

The iconic 911 Coupe body is paired with diamond cut finished 19-inch Turbo II Lightweight Alloy Wheels. The alloy wheels are fitted with matching Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Porsche N1 Rated high performance tyres with lots of tread all round. The brake discs and pads are also in good condition.
